Albert J. Matricciani, Jr.

Judge Matricciani is currently serving as President of ADR/MARYLAND. He brings more than 40 years of experience as a practicing lawyer, trial judge and appellate judge to his dispute resolution practice. After 20 years as a civil litigator, the last 8 as a partner at Whiteford, Taylor & Preston, LLP, he was appointed to the Circuit Court for Baltimore City in 1994. In 2008, he was elevated to the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland, where he served until May 1, 2014, when he re-joined Whiteford, Taylor & Preston, LLP as Senior Counsel. Judge Matricciani is a trial lawyer in the firm’s business litigation group and chair of its dispute resolution practice group.

Judge Matricciani has been active in professional and civic affairs throughout his career. He is a past President of the Bar Association of Baltimore City and an elected member of the American Law Institute. He was an adjunct professor at the Francis King Carey School of Law at the University of Maryland for ten years. He is a former member of the Rules Committee of the Court of Appeals of Maryland and he has served on both the Trial Courts and Appellate Nominating Commissions. He is a former member of the Maryland Judicial Conference and a permanent member of the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference. After completing several years as President of the Friends of the Sheridan Libraries at the Johns Hopkins University, he was elected to the university's Alumni Council. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Homeless Persons Representation Project, Inc.

Judge Matricciani received his dispute resolution training from Harvard Law School, the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and the Straus Institute associated with Pepperdine Law School. He is a certified Neutral of the American Arbitration Association and he serves as a mediator for complex commercial cases and medical malpractice cases in the Maryland Circuit Courts.
