Richard L. Wasserman

Mr. Wasserman is, through his PC, a partner in the law firm of Venable LLP.  Mr. Wasserman is the senior partner in Venable’s bankruptcy and creditors’ rights group.  He is a Fellow and Fourth Circuit Regent in the American College of Bankruptcy and focuses his practice in matters involving bankruptcy and bankruptcy-related litigation, creditors’ rights, secured transactions, workouts, reorganizations and restructurings. 

Mr. Wasserman has extensive experience representing clients in major business, commercial and real estate bankruptcy, workout and reorganization matters, and has also served as a Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Trustee, as a court-appointed Examiner and as a mediator in bankruptcy adversary proceedings and claims resolution proceedings.  Mr. Wasserman is on the register of mediators in the United States Bankruptcy Courts in Delaware and the Southern District of New York.

Mr. Wasserman has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America for more than 20 years, including being recognized as “Lawyer of the Year” for Baltimore bankruptcy and creditor debtor rights/insolvency and reorganization law in 2014.  Mr. Wasserman has also been recognized in Maryland Super Lawyers, Chambers USA, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law and Who’s Who in the World. 

Mr. Wasserman is a past president and director of the Bankruptcy Bar Association for the District of Maryland, vice chair of the American Bar Association, Business Law Section, Bankruptcy Court Structure and Insolvency Process Committee, and chair of the U.S. District Court/Bankruptcy Bar Association Liaison Committee. 

Mr. Wasserman is a frequent lecturer on bankruptcy-related topics and has authored numerous publications and presentations.  Mr. Wasserman is a member of the Board of Directors and the Treasurer of the Maryland Legal Aid Bureau.
